Bio
Character Information

Name: Remus John Lupin

History: Remus was born on March 10th, 1960 to John (a wizard who worked in the archives of the Ministry of Magic) and Ceridwen (a squib who worked in small bookshop in Diagon Alley) Lupin. He was a quiet and shy but outgoing child who took to the world with a quiet intensity befitting his curious nature. His parents read to him constantly, fostering in him the love for books who would later become known for.

Not long after his 8th birthday, Remus was bitten by the infamous werewolf Fenrir Greyback. A few days before Fenrir had gone to Remus' father and asked him to use his connections within the Ministry to get a bill supporting werewolf rights. Remus' father refused on the grounds that most werewolves could not be trusted with the kind of freedoms the bill would allow them. Furious, Fenrir swore John would regret his decision. His threat was not an empty one. Come the following full moon, Remus was outside with a telescope, hoping to catch sight of the star shower that was supposed to happen that night. He was attacked. The werewolf Fenrir bit down on his shoulder and would have dragged him off into the forest if it were not for Remus' mother. Melinda, fearing her son's life, intervened and lost her own life in the process. Fenrir, having accomplished the task he had set out to do (ie infect John's son with the very disease he had earlier refused to help), left.

Remus' life changed a lot after that day. Even though John searched constantly for a cure, there was a distance between Remus and his father that seemed impossible to close. He drew into himself more, becoming quieter and less outgoing. Books became an escape as well as his only friend. Full moons were awful. The transformations were painful and the werewolf, furious at being caged, took out its anger on its own hide. By the time he was ten, Remus' body was a patchwork quilt of scars. Loneliness became his constant companion and he very much expected it to stay that way. Until one day Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts school, came to the Lupin household and encouraged Remus to enroll in school.

Remus attended Hogwarts from 1971 to 1978 and was sorted into Gryffindor house. To insure his safety as well as that of his peers, he was brought to the an old building (it resided in a local wizarding town and had no natural entrances. There only way into it was a secret passage leading to it from under the Whomping Willow, on Hogwarts' grounds) once a month for his transformations. However, as before, this isolation caused him to attack himself out of frustration. The villagers of Hogsmeade mistook his screams for that of violent ghosts. Thus the building was dubbed the Shrieking Shack and attained the reputation for being the most haunted building in Britain. Dumbledore encouraged this rumour to keep people from investigating the noises.

Eventually Remus became good friends with fellow Gryffindors James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew. He kept his status a werewolf a secret from all of the students at Hogwarts, including his friends, and made up stories to explain his monthly disappearances. James, Sirius, and Peter worked out the truth during their second year, and due to their acceptance of who Remus was and their strong friendship with him they decided to learn how to become Animagi in order to keep Remus company during his transformations as a werewolf is only a danger to humans. Once a month during the full moon James, Sirius, and Peter would sneak out of the castle under James's Invisibility Cloak, transform, get into the Whomping Willow, walk down the tunnel, and meet up with Remus in the Shrieking Shack. The four of them soon left the Whomping Willow and would roam among the school grounds and Hogsmeade by night. They called themselves the Marauders and Remus’ friends nicknamed him "Moony" because of his transformations during every full moon.

However, Remus' frequent disappearances riled up an unhealthy curiosity in Severus Snape, a Slytherin student in the same year as Remus, who shared an enmity with James and Sirius, and hated Remus and Peter by association. Severus followed James, Sirius, Remus and Peter around in order to see what they were up to and in an effort to get all of them expelled. In their sixth year, Sirius played a malicious prank against Snape by telling him about the Whomping Willow passageway, hoping that he would be terrified by what he found at the other end. James stopped Snape and saved his life, but Snape still uncovered Remus’ secret. Dumbledore swore Snape to secrecy, but Snape teased Remus cruelly from that point on.

The final year of Remus' life at Hogwarts passed by uneventfully. Rumors of the Dark Lord Voldemort were growing into more than just idle gossip. People were dying. The threat was real and something had to be done about it.

Shortly after graduating from Hogwarts, Remus joined the Order of the Phoenix along with James, Sirius, Peter and Lily Evans, standing up against Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Unable to find work in the wizarding world because of his werewolf status, he also took a job in muggle London as a librarian.

Personality: Quiet and shy, Remus is generally a reserved man. He tends to keep to himself especially around those he doesn't know very well. He is tolerant and understanding and, despite having suffered a great deal of prejudice in his life due to his lycanthropy, he manages to retain an ability to see the good in almost everybody. However, his lycanthropy has also left him with a desperate need to be liked, making him something of a doormat when it comes to people.

Self-esteem is not something Remus has in spades. Talented and clever as he may be, he considers himself nothing more than a decent wizard but that's about all the credit he is willing to give himself. He is also very uncomfortable about his scars. To him they are ugly and are nothing more than reminders of the monster that he is. He generally wears long-sleeved shirts and pants to hide the scars.

Remus also has an excellent sense of humor and his quiet nature hides a mischievous side. In school he often helped in the planning and execution of the Marauder's pranks. Still, he could be described as the mature one out of the Marauders because unlike his friends he never partook in bullying. It has to be mentioned, however, that he didn't often stand up to his friends either.

He has an addiction and a weakness for books and chocolate.

Stats

Age: 18

Height: 5'10"

Appearance:Remus is pale-skinned and slender with brown hair and honey-brown eyes (turned blue now since he is no longer a werewolf). Scars in varying degrees of recency litter his body. Some of them were able to be healed with magic and are nothing more than pale lines (three of which travel diagonally from the left side of his face to the right) on his skin, others are raised. Because Remus' scars make him uncomfortable he always wears enough clothing (ie long-sleeved shirts, trousers, etc...) to keep them covered and hidden.

Though Remus dresses neatly his clothing is shabby and often patched, showing sign of wear.
